A German exchange student named Philip Cordes came to live with me and my family in the 2013-2014 school year. It was so much fun and a great learning experience for us to learn about another culture that we were always curious about. During his stay he taught us a lot about the German culture, what they like to do in their spare time, and what their traditions are. His parents were also a fun part of our learning experience because of all the candy and presents they had sent over for us to try and learn about.
When Phil was living with us we went on a couple of vacations. On thanksgiving we went to Florida for a yearly trip that my family and I always take. Phil enjoyed Disney World because it was his first time ever experiencing something like that. Also, we went down to Alabama during spring break and we went in our camper. We all really enjoyed the food and Phil says he has a new taste for seafood. On all our vacations he was very generous with buying us meals and trinkets.
The German people are a very stoic people with very little emotions coming to surface. The only two emotions I ever saw Philip show was his strong and aggressive German anger (not towards me) and his laughter. I also learned the German people love their beer due to how much Phil loved to talk about beer and vodka. The Germans favorite holiday is Oktoberfest; Phil says he loves the training time for it just as much as the holiday itself. The experience overall with Phil was one I will never forget.
These skills will help me in the future for being a car salesman and going to college, due to the vast assortment of ethnicities. I will be able to get along and understand their culture, this will also help me connect one-on-one with the person and be able to sell them a car.
